Festival Of The Arts Art Guild And Rural Development ■ Panel Announces Dates And Rules ■ For Art Show And County Fair The Art Show of the week-long Brevard Festival of the Arts will be on July 26th - 28th. Mr. H. Henry Rogers, President of the Tran sylvaina Art Guild and di rector of the Art Show, in vites everyone who does art work in Transylvania County to participate. The show will be at either "Silvermont” or at the Bre vard Senior High School. A later announcement will speci fy. Hours will be from 1:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m. There will be a youth art show and con test. Some of the rules for the show are as follows: —Each artist will be re sponsible for his own display. —A $2 registration fee will be paid to the Festival of the When yon think of prescrip tions, think of VARNER’S, adv. x Arts. Contestants should mail this with their registration forms to the Brevard Chamber of Commerce, Festival of the Arts. —Participants must be reg istered no later than July 8th. No applications will be accept* ed after that date. —Each artist must live in or be a member of *tr active art group in Transyl- ilia County. Anyone wishing to partici pate in the Art Show may contact H. Henry Rogers by telephone (8834347). An en try blank may be picked up at the Brevard Chamber of Commerce or from Mr. Rog ers. Many local artists are ex pected to participate in the festival. The show will give the public a good look at what is being done by local artists and an opportunity to acquire orig inal paintings since many of ^Attention Getting married or announcing your en gagement? We have a few simple rules which MUST be followed: Engagement pictures and information must be in this office by noon Friday for publication the following Thursday. Pictures for publication must be in black/ white, an 8 x 10 size is preferred. Wedding information and pictures must be in this office by the date of the wedding. Any information received after the wedding will be cut to a brief announcement. The deadline for all society news and other news for Women’s pages is 4:00 Monday afternoon. Engagement and wedding forms are avail able at The Times or may be had by sending a long, self-addressed envelope. County Fair Plans have been made for a two-day fair to be held in the gymnasium of Brevard Senior High School July 2?th » 28th. Sponsors hope that every section of the county will be represented this first year and that the Fair will be an annual event for years to come. The 1973 Fair will have special emphasis on better living. The purpose will be to give people an opportunity to see and learn about some “Op portunities For Better Living,” this year’s theme. The fair Is sponsored by the Brevard Chamber of Commerce and the Transyl vania County Rural Develop ment Panel, which consists of representatives from most county and federal agencies, departments, and schools in the county. The fair will have three main departments: Farm Pro ducts, Educational, and Farm and Home Specialties. Each de partment will have both adult and youth divisions and these will be judged separately. A list of 35 farm products, fruits and vegetables will be judged on size, uniformity and quality in the Farm Products department In the Educational depart ment, exhibits will be judged in Community Development, Youth Educational, and Non competetive Educational areas. Judging will be on pre sentation — simplicity, or ganization, attractiveness — and educational value. In the Farm and Home Specialties department exhibits of clothing, needlecraft, food conservation, baked goods and flowers will be judged. Entry rules, general infor mation and entry blanks have been distributed to several farm and home organizations. Copies may also be had by contacting John K. Official entry blanks for the Photo Contest of the week-long Brevard Festival of the Arts, Jol> 22nd through 28th, may be picked up at the Transylvania Coun ty Department of Recreation. The contest will be held July 26th - 28th at Silvermont the new Transylvania County Recreation Center along with the Art Show at the same time and place. Open to all residents of Transylvania County, the con test is in three age groups: Pre-Teens — through age 12; Juniors — 13 through 15; and Seniors — 16 and over. There are five classifications in the contest: Black and White Prints; Color Prints; Trans parencies; Special Effect Black ■ and White Print; and Special I Effect Color Print. Categories in the contest 1 are: Portrait, Landscape, Still Life, Animal Life, Animal Life, and Action. Contest Rules are: —Contest is limited to resi dents of Transylvania Coun ty. —Enter as many photos as you wish, .but only one per class and category. —All prints regardless of print size must be mounted on a 16” by 20” mounting card. Transparencies should be standard mounts pasted to an 8” by 10” black card with appropriate space cut out of the card for viewing. —All Festival of the Arts photo contest entries must be turned in to the Recreation Department by July 16, 1973. —The proper entry blank must be filled in and pasted to the back of the mounting board. —The Recreation Depart ment is not responsible for damage to or other mishaps incurred by entries. If the veteran entered the service from North Carolina, he may be entiteld to a World Masons Confer Third Degree Thursday Night The Master Masons degree will be conferred at an emerg ent communication Thursday, July 19th at 7:30 p. m. in Dunn’s Rock Masonic temple on East Main street.
